Why standard functionality should be your first choice in Dynamics 365 Customer Service

Writing on her blog, Manasa Nadaduru stated that one of the first decisions in many D365 implementation projects is whether a business need should be met using standard features or custom development.

Nadaduru wrote that while some customization is often needed, one lesson has become clear from her experience implementing Dynamics 365 Customer Service: organizations usually get better long-term results when they look at the standard features first and only customize the system when there is a real business need.

She pointed out that Microsoft continues to add new features with every D365 release, making it more important than ever to understand what the platform already offers before deciding to build custom solutions.

She also shared an example from a D365 Customer Service implementation where standard features, including the case table, business process flows, and Power Automate, met the customer's needs without requiring custom tables.
