Universal partners with Microsoft to leverage Azure
Universal Filmed Entertainment Group announced a new partnership with Microsoft to apply more cloud services to animated and live-action films, with the goal of extending DreamWorks Animation production platform to live-action productions.
The film industry has witnessed tremendous disruption with the closure of theaters and production facilities due to Covid-19, and the initiative is focused in-part on enabling remote collaboration, streamlining workflows and allowing an acceleration back to production, according to the companies.
A Microsoft spokesperson explained some of the Azure services that Universal plans to use:
