Microsoft Azure pros share their latest insights on cost containment, running containers with Docker CLI, leveraging File Share and new Firewall capabilities.

Reducing Azure costs

Thomas Thornton explained how to use Budgets and costs alerts to contain Azure spending, and shared how to set up a cost alert. Users can navigate in their subscription to Cost Alerts & Budgets under Cost Management. He set his scope as the subscription. Microsoft allows users to get very granular with their scope and have multiple budget sets. Parameters include the name of the budget, reset period, creation date, expiration time and amount.

In a subsequent screen, users set alert conditions that when triggered flow to an Action Group. "Setting budget alerts will definitely assist you in relation to your Azure Spend and a highly recommended Azure Cost Saving tip to help prevent unexpected Azure spending," he wrote.
