Azure Updates: Business continuity; Databricks; Enterprise-scale landing zones; Functions; Cost management

CVP Mark Russinovich touted Azure's growing business continuity capabilities while program manager Siddharth Deekshit offered a more detailed explanation of disaster recovery with Site Recovery. The service replicates workloads across physical machines and VMs and combines with Availability Zones for Zone to Zone DR. Site Recovery will soon be available in all regions along with Availability Zones. Users can review the Well-Architected Framework for more insights on zone resilience and disaster recovery.

Director of Product Yatharth Gupta shared five reasons why Databricks runs well on Azure. Azure Databricks is the only first-party service offered for Databricks. Gupta highlighted engineering partnerships, mission-critical support, access to the Azure ecosystem, native security and identity, as well as rapid onboarding. Currently, Azure Databricks is available in 34 datacenter regions.

Taking a break from his usual independent blogging, senior cloud advocate Thomas Maurer discussed ways to scale cloud adoption with modular designs for enterprise-scale landing zones. The modular design helps to deploy both existing and new apps. It provides three reference implementations that can be scaled up without refactoring, including enterprise-scale foundations, Virtual WAN, and enterprise-scale hub and spoke.
