The 2-Tier Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) Distributor Journey: Q&A with Ingram Micro

In the 24 months since the Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program launched, just over 70 companies worldwide have become 2-Tier CSPs - the indirect Microsoft Cloud resellers whose partners are largely other Microsoft partners.

Whereas the far more numerous 1-Tier CSPs are direct conduits between Microsoft and the customer (becoming "The Face of Microsoft"), 2-Tier CSPs are distributors, connecting Microsoft with resellers in a geographic market. Resellers get prepackaged offerings, simplified invoicing, and as much end-user support as the 2-Tier CSP is willing to provide.

Jason Bystrak, Ingram MicroIngram Micro is in 12 of the 13 CSP geographic regions, far more than other leading providers. And, claims Ingram Micro Executive Director of Cloud for North America, Jason Bystrak,"Unless something's changed in the last couple of hours we're Microsoft's number one CSP partner worldwide as well."

Ingram Micro was at the ground floor of the CSP program, two years old in July. Since then it has created its Cloud Elevate partner program, and offers Microsoft Cloud and ISV products through its Ingram Micro Cloud Marketplace. There will you find assurances for SaaS security, infrastructure offerings and a lengthy list of bundles and applications; but also a long list of cloud management services.

The company added cloud strength and horsepower through four key acquisitions:

  • SoftCom [2013] which says Bystrak "gave us engineers that helped us to build the marketplace, and also provides some of the service delivery like data ...
