Why Invest in Training for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 SP1? Here Are 2,681 Reasons

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 SP1, in its standard untouched version, comes with at least 2,681 application features. I didn't make this figure on the spot; this is the number of application objects users can actually run. You can confirm it yourself - open the Object Designer and do the count. Keep in mind though: the exact number of features is actually much higher-majority of these objects contain several features embedded.

Now, imagine yourself sitting at a dashboard with 2,681 buttons to push.

The Costs of Inadequate Training

No matter what your business makes money out of, introducing an ERP system into your organization is one of the biggest change processes you'll ever go through. A behemoth, with thousands of plugs and levers to be operated simultaneously by half your workforce, has just entered the building. Do you trust your people will simply know which buttons to push and when? And why?

User training is one of the most important tasks associated with ERP implementation, yet it is stunning how little budget often gets allocated to it. License and hardware costs are significant, add the consultancy costs (training excluded) to this equation, and the price tag for the project is through the roof.

Executives fear the high training costs. And with good reason: training is costly. Training costs break down into training services, materials, possible travel expenses, but by far the highest costs are those that you don't see on the bill: the costs of lost productivity. Can you really afford to have a hundred people away from their posts while there is business to conduct?

Let me ask the question differently: can you trust a hundred under-trained individuals to operate your $500K investment?
