VMware expands collaboration with Microsoft to support enterprise workloads on Azure
During VMware Explore US 2022, VMware announced an expanded collaboration with Microsoft to support VMware vSphere migrations to Azure. Customers will have the option to buy the Azure VMware Solution as part of VMware Cloud Universal.
Cloud Universal is targeted toward customers with a hybrid cloud architecture, offering credits to purchase and apply to a VMware Solution deployment. VMware indicated that it provides pre-built security and networking, together with developer tools like VMware Tanzu.
For its part, Microsoft shared that it supports VMware Solution across 24 Azure regions, with Public IP to NSX Edge available in 17 regions. Microsoft has made Jetstream DR and VMware vRealize Log Insight Cloud generally available, with Enterprise VMware Cloud Director Services and Azure NetApp Files datastores for Azure VMware Solution in public preview.
“VMware Cloud Universal customers will gain greater flexibility to adopt Azure VMware Solution at their own pace to speed cloud migration, simplify ongoing operations, modernize applications faster and achieve better economics while benefitting from a single operating model across clouds,” said Zia Yusuf, senior vice president, strategic ecosystem and industry solutions, VMware, in a statement.
