Top articles of 2020: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central & NAV

Microsoft moved Dynamics 365 Business Central, their SMB ERP solution, forward in 2020 with new leader, preliminary offerings to support integration with Microsoft Teams and Dataverse (formerly Common Data Service), and a maturing story on SaaS solution management for partners and customers. But Business Central also continued to assert itself as the center of the SMB ERP universe for the Microsoft channel as both GP and NAV professionals demonstrated a growing willingness to invest in their knowledge of the platform. And Microsoft pushed for broader adoption as well with new license transition promotions, and a sustained push to get ISVs from both the GP and NAV channels to launch BC-compatible solutions, and incentives to grow the channel via CSP.

As 2020 winds down, we at MSDW are particularly thankful to those who contributed to the SMB ERP discussion this year. Some of the most popular of their articles are included in the list below, and many more appeared on the site throughout the year.

DevOps becomes mandatory for Dynamics 365 Business Central (July 13)

Microsoft MVP James Crowter shared his outlook on one of the key challenges that Microsoft partners and customers will have to face if Business Central is to become a successful SaaS ERP offering: the need for sophisticated dev ops that can provide both stability and the capacity for customization for each customer. From the article:

My bet would be that 2020 is the year that DevOps for Business Central goes from an excellent idea to the mainstream. I simply cannot see how we are going to continually certify current compatibility for the hundreds of ISV solutions (likely to be thousands by the end of 2020) and hundreds of thousands of per-tenant extensions using the old fashioned manual test and deploy method.
