Time Your Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 for Maximum Benefit

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 will be out before you know it. 

General availability is expected May 1, 2010, and there have already been many partner and customer events planned for the new release.  Dynamics GP 2010 is also the first GP release for which a Beta version has been made available to all GP partners, something I consider monumental in getting quicker general acceptance of a new version. 

Should you upgrade to GP 2010? If your company is actively using Dynamics GP and plans to continue doing so, upgrading to a new version is a good idea to ensure continued support and compatibility with your other systems.

How do you decide when to upgrade?  Here are some recommendations:

Plan to upgrade to Dynamics GP 2010 by the end of calendar year 2010 if you:

  • Need any of the new functionality included in GP 2010. More information will start being available on the new features in the coming months and your GP partner can help you identify if any of the new functionality can address your needs.
  • Want to take advantage of support for newer OS and SQL Server releases and service packs. Going by past experience, as soon GP 2010 is released, any testing for new service packs and versions will stop for GP 10.0.

Hold off on upgrading to Dynamics GP 2010 after calendar year 2010 if you:

  • Are on GP 10.0 and do not urgently need any of the new functionality in GP 2010. Mainstream ...
