Run on-demand workflows with Microsoft Flow in Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement UCI Apps

In this article, I will explain the steps to enable on-demand workflows in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement (D365CE) Unified Interface. With the release of D365CE apps version 9.0, Microsoft has introduced a new user experience – Unified Interface, Unified Client Interface, or UCI – which uses responsive web design principles to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience for any screen size, device, or orientation.

The Unified Interface brings an enriched experience to users. And it is responsive enough to produce similar experiences on browsers, tablets or phones. But there are some important differences, like the technology and approach needed to expose and run on-demand workflows.

Scenario

After clients are upgraded to D365CE V9, users are unable to use "Web Classic app" functionality that exposed their on-demand workflows built using the CRM workflow engine. In other words, those workflows still exist but can't be easily accessed by users. This proves to be a showstopper for some teams since it is often considered a routine task and a much-needed feature.

The supported approach to adding on-demand workflows to the Unified Interface is to enable Microsoft Flow. This article will walk through the steps required to configure Microsoft Flow and assign specific flows to user scenarios. This approach is an alternative to the customization that would be required if a company wanted to expose legacy CRM on-demand workflows in the Unified Interface.

Below are steps to be performed by an admin for enabling on-demand workflows with Microsoft Flow for all users.
