New hierarchical visualization control in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales reaches preview

Microsoft is rolling out the public preview of its new Hierarchical Visualization control for Dynamics 365 Sales. 

The preview should reach all regions over the next 6 weeks, according to Microsoft principal product manager Scott Stabbert.

“This is one of the coolest features I've worked on in my career at Microsoft,” he added in another post. 

The control has two versions planned. The first, which is now in preview, will reach GA in October 2025 and will support single table 'self-referential' hierarchies with four hierarchy layouts for different types of hierarchies and customizable tile styling. Users can build hierarchies based on any Standard or Elastic table in Dataverse, both out-of-the box tables as well as custom tables.

A preview of version 2 is planned for October 2025, with GA in February 2026. It will add support for customizable complex cross-table hierarchies. Stabbert gave the example of “a hierarchy where an Account has child Contacts which have child Opportunities. Each child table included in the hierarchy can be configured to show just records with a direct relationship to the parent, or you can choose to show a full self-referential sub-hierarchy.”

Several commenters responded positively on LinkedIn, with one praising the feature for progressing despite no visible AI element. But another questioned why Microsoft didn't focus on creating platform component instead. With the introduction of this Sales-specific feature, Microsoft is removing the platform level hierarchy visualization control. Dynamics 365 and Power Platform veteran Jukka Niiranen noted that Microsoft MVP Clement Olivier has created it as a PCF control to provide similar capabilities.
