Microsoft releases Power BI Content Pack for Azure Active Directory

Microsoft customers with cloud solutions can now track log-ins and application usage data from Azure Active Directory using Power BI.

The company announced the release of the Power BI Content Pack in a post on its Power BI blog by Program Manager Youssef Shoukry. As he describes:

The usage and activity reports in the Azure admin portal are a great starting point for accessing and digesting usage trends. But many of you have told us you want the ability to gather richer insights into what's going on with the various capabilities you rely on in Azure Active Directory.

With this integration of Azure Active Directory APIs with Power BI, writes Shoukry, users can easily download pre-built content packs and dig deeper into activity within AAD, "and all this data is enhanced by the rich visualization experience Power BI offers [see graphic]. And you can create your own dashboard and share it easily with anyone in your organization."

Users will need Azure AD Premium (versus Basic) to view sign-in logs in the AAD Activity content pack.

The blog provides full instructions, but you begin by:

  1. Logging into Power BI with your Power BI Account (the same account as your Office 365 or Azure AD accounts)
  2. Select Get Data at the bottom of the left navigation pane.
  3. In the Services box, select Get, when you should see the pop-out below.
