Microsoft Plans Expanded Availability of New Dynamics AX, With More Intelligence Touch Points Upgrade Tools To Come

The New Microsoft Dynamics AX is slated for on-premise and private cloud availability starting in later 2016. At Envision 2016, the ERP team clarified some additional details of the latest releases release beyond Azure.

The remainder of calendar year 2016 will see the new Dynamics AX add Power BI content packs and entity store, an upgrade strategy from AX 2009, and improved mobile app experiences and use of Cortana Intelligence Suite products.

Public, private, and on-premise cloud plans

Expanding beyond the Azure public cloud option means adding private cloud compatibility, something Microsoft has already committed to. That move relies on the release of Azure Stack, Windows Server 2016, and SQL Server 2016. When that is available, Azure can be deployed in a data center like an OS.

"You will be able to run AX in your data center or your managed service provider's data center, providing one code base and three deployment options, with the power of the cloud," said  cloud business solutions platform general manager Sri Srinivasan. "And you have the option to leverage all the tooling we provide for the public cloud offering in LCS yourselves. You can use it through LCS to manage your environment."

Microsoft will also make the new AX available through "government clouds" in countries like the US, Germany, and China.

New features, services to come

A Dynamics AX 2009 upgrade process for the new AX is in preview now, according to Srinivasan. By fall, they expect to have a "very good path" for customers to move to the new AX.
