Microsoft Dynamics Profile: New NAV MVP Kerry Rosvold brings independent perspective to latest consulting, training venture

by Linda Rosencrance
Contributing Writer, MSDW

Kerry RosvoldWhen first-time Microsoft Dynamics NAV MVP Kerry Rosvold was nominated for the award last fall, she wasn't 100 percent sure she had done enough to win it.

"It's hard to say what the rules are, so it's a little bit of a mystery," she says. While there's no playbook or even defined rules, she concluded that "it's all about contribution and building community."

But Rosvold says she also thinks that Microsoft's criteria change along with the needs of the community.

"Traditionally, the MVP designation has been purely technical, but I'm a functional expert," she says. "It would be unusual to have an MVP awarded to a functional expert a few years ago, but now there's a bigger need [for that expertise]."

When January 1 came and went without a congratulatory email from Microsoft, Rosvold put the MVP award out of her mind. Instead, the notification came on April 1, which she says was "kind of a surprise."

"I was actually in Amsterdam for a user group conference and got the news," she says. "I felt fantastic. Who wouldn't?"

Her goal: Reaching more NAV users

"The thing that's really important to me about the MVP designation is that it allows me to expand my reach," she says. "That's always been my goal with my contributions to the community - how can I share information with more people? How can I connect more people with each other so they can improve their knowledge base?"

For Rosvold, that's what being a functional expert and a Microsoft expert is about - helping people do their jobs better.
