From the Microsoft Dynamics GP Blogs: glpPostAccount; XLOOKUP; Error message; On order field

March 26 2020

In this week's Microsoft Dynamics GP blog roundup:

  • glpPostAccount: Error occurred NULL parameter
  • Using the XLOOKUP function in Dynamics GP
  • Error message when running ClearCompanies script for Dynamics GP: "Error: conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'ABC' to data type int."
  • On order field in the item quantities maintenance window shows a quantity, but there are no purchase orders listed when zooming to view the details

glpPostAccount: Error occurred NULL parameter

Writing on The Dynamics GP Geek Blog , Beat Bucher stated that "Error occurred NULL parameter" is a common error message you might get in Dynamics GP when you try to post a general ledger batch in financial.

The full message actually starts with “The Stored procedure glpPostBatch returned the following results: DBMS: 0, Microsoft Dynamics GP: 20052”

The real problem is that message doesn't mean anything, because it doesn't provide any information about what the real issue might be.

He explained what the issue would likely be most of the time as reported by other users in community forums and what the simple fix would be. However, he noted that no matter what, when he tried the simple fix it didn't work for him.

Finally, Bucher explained the steps he took to figure out a solution to his problem.

Using the XLOOKUP function in Dynamics GP

On the Encore Business Solutions blog, Steve Michaelson stated that while he spends most of his time in SQL and Dynamics GP, he still loves Excel because as an accountant, he uses it for a number of tasks every day.

Michaelson stated that often GP users will export several SmartLists, and use a function called VLOOKUP to include things in one SmartList that are only available from another.  However, he pointed out that it was a little difficult for users to learn VLOOKUP, when they did it became indispensible until XLOOKUP appeared on scene.

Not only does this make learning a VLOOKUP-type formula much easier, it is incredibly more powerful. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about a new Excel feature, but I won’t wax on about it any longer.

In his blog post, Michaelson explained exactly how the XLOOKUP function worked.

Error message when running ClearCompanies script for Dynamics GP: "Error: conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'ABC' to data type int."

Posting on the Dynamics GP Support and Services blog, Derek Albaugh stated that although there have been partner blogs and forums pertaining to the "Error: conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'ABC' to data type int," error, the team still sees support cases on it.

As a result, the GP support and services team decided to write this blog post to call attention to the error. Albaugh pointed out when the ClearCompanies script throws this error message and why.

He then wrote about how to resolve the issue to help users some time if they encounter this type of error message and decrease the need to log a support case.

No purchases listed in item quantities maintenance windows

Also writing on the Dynamics GP Support and Services blog, Angela Eckman Ebensteiner decided to share some information and troubleshooting tips around the "on order" amount on the item quantities maintenance window.

In her blog post, Ebensteiner explained that the on order field displays the quantity of an item entered on standard purchase orders and blanket purchase orders. She also explained when the field will be automatically increased and when it will be decreased.

She then noted a couple things that you can do to fix the issue when the item quantities maintenance window doesn't display a quantity.
