Azure AD authentication with Dynamics CRM

On his Bits & Bytes by Danish blog, Danish Naglekar stated that people have been asking him how to set up Azure Active Directory authentication to authenticate Dynamics 365 without using a username and password, especially for authenticating in a sandbox mode.

In his blog post, Naglekar explained that the first thing you have to do is register in AD, then add API permission to the app. From there, users need to create a client secret, setup an application user in D365 for Customer Engagement, authenticate D365 in the custom app using ADAL libraries, and finally authenticate D365 in the custom app using a web request.

You can read detailed information about these steps here.

Alternate key creation – stuck on pending status

On his Passion Dynamics blog, Rawish Kumar Prajapati stated that the alternate key in Dynamics CRM is a very useful feature. He blogged about this feature here.

In his blog post, he described what to do if you create an alternate key but its corresponding job stayed in "pending" status:

Consider an example of my entity. On my customer entity I have a contact reference field which I would like to be unique. Hence I decide to create an alternate key. So I go to Settings > Customizations > Customize the System > Entity > My Entity > Key and create a new one by adding the contact reference field.

Prajapati offered two reasons why the job might be stuck in pending status. You can find out what he did to fix the issue here.

Error with editable grids and associated views in Dynamics 365 v.9

On the Magnetism Solutions Dynamics CRM blog, Jordan Hohepa stated that now with views and subgrids in Dynamics 365 v.9 you can make each row editable without having to open the record itself.

This can be activated for specific views and subgrids or at an entity level so all views for a certain entity become editable.
