Walter Sun has joined SAP as global head of artificial intelligence, the company announced. Sun had been Microsoft's vice president of applied AI for the Business Applications and Platform group and had been with the company since 2005.

Sun had worked on various research and product development roles in his time at Microsoft. In his latest role focused on AI for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, he personally made the case for the trustworthiness of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Copilot, which is still in its infancy as it adds new generative AI capabilities across various applications and services.

As Sun explained in May 2023 following the reveal of Copilot, Microsoft was designing Copilot capabilities for its business apps with guardrails built in that would allow customers to both use copilots and maintain their existing policies around secure access to data.
