Steve Sweetman, OpenAI Service product lead at Microsoft, shared the release of the GPT-4.1 model series for AI Foundry and GitHub developers. Models including GPT-4.1, 4.1-mini, and 4.1-nano are becoming available for both GitHub and OpenAI Service. With GPT-4.1, for instance, customers can boost coding, leverage a long context model, and enhance instruction following. Customers increasingly have the option to do supervised fine-tuning.

Sweetman also looked at an array of other models like o3 and 04-mini. With the two models—available through GitHub and AI Foundry—developers can support multiple APIs, output reasoning summaries in the Responses API, and support multimodality. “Both models are first reasoning models with full tools support like the mainline models including parallel tool calling. Customers can use these to build the next generation of agentic solutions. This capability is supported in both Responses API and Chat Completions API,” he wrote. According to Sweetman, o-series models use deliberative alignment as a safety-based training strategy to reason within specifications.
