AXUG Summit: Come Prepared to Learn, Says Microsoft Dynamics AX Veteran

by Dann Anthony Maurno
Assistant Editor, MSDW

Grant Wilson Grant Wilson knows Microsoft Dynamics AX inside and out. He has consulted on or managed Dynamics AX installations for more than a decade. But, he believes, there is always more to learn, and AXUG Summit (running Monday, October 13 through 16, 2015, in Reno, Nevada) is one of the ideal places to continue an AX education.

Wilson is the ERP solutions architect with Microsemi Corporation, a Dynamics AX customer and a multinational company with a comprehensive portfolio of semiconductor and system solutions. Previously, Wilson had managed Dynamics AX systems or implementations for a range of companies like Vista Outdoors, Tenzing Technologies, and Décor-Rest Furniture.

In short, Wilson is a Dynamics AX veteran. He is the chapter leader of AXUG's Southern California chapter, and last year delivered five sessions at AXUG Summit. He is also an AXUG board member who helps to plan content for the Summit, but believes that even a seasoned Dynamics AX pro can always learn. He shared with us his experience of the AXUG Summit and how to make the most of it.

You're a solutions architect; does a Dynamics AX system in a multinational require constant architecting?

Yes. Microsemi's growth pattern is really through acquisition, so we are acquiring sometimes one big company, sometimes four or five companies a year. Our architecture not only has to keep up with what we're doing today but it also needs to be flexible as we acquire different product lines, or move into different countries with different requirements.
