After #AXTech2014: What do Microsoft Dynamics AX pros know now?

Before this week's Microsoft Dynamics AX Technical Conference, Microsoft had said that the event would primarily focus on new and improved features in Dynamics AX 2012 R3 rather than technical updates. And by all accounts coming out of the event, they were right - attendees reported pouring over a range of new features and tools.

Microsoft officials made it clear that R3 paves the way for the technical updates coming in AX ‘7', also known as ‘Rainier' in 2015. A few other key takeaways from the event that people were talking about - Lifecycle Services (LCS) is for real; there seemed to be serious interest among attendees on master data management (MDM), and Microsoft is taking Windows Azure seriously as a legitimate deployment option for some Dynamics AX 2012 R3 systems.

Based on blogs and tweets coming out of the event, people seem to be genuinely interested in the prospects for AX Lifecycle Services to become a platform with staying power.  If it succeeds, it can has the potential to improve AX solutions, but perhaps more importantly, to improve the relationships that are so critical to getting an AX solution launched, sustained, and supported.

LCS will be seeing updates as frequently as every month, attendees were told.  And this is not a simple platform - there is still a lot for the community to dig into if they are to start learning about it. But one attendee noted that the level of detail in some questions from the audience suggested that some people are already hands-on with the platform.
