$14 Billion Pension Fund Chooses Microsoft Dynamics AX

Relying on a general ledger software package that was originally implemented in 1996 and then upgraded several times over the last two decades, Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund in Columbus, Oh., last year found itself in need of a more modern, collaborative platform.

"We wanted software that was being used in the public pension sector and something that clients could network with," says Arleen Rhodes, OP&F's controller. OP&F members include more than 28,000 active police officers and firefighters, more than 18,000 retired members and nearly 8,000 beneficiaries and survivors, according to their web site.

As part of the RFP that it issued for the new software, the fund wanted a program that came with the latest in accounting automation (for both AR and AP) and technological capabilities. It also wanted to enhance its procurement/purchasing operations through increased online vendor activity.

"When we did our requests for information or proposals, we wanted the response to be delivered online," says Rhodes. "Our current provider was moving in that direction, but wasn't quite there yet. We were ready to switch."

With installation of Dynamics AX set for completion during the first quarter of 2015, and system implementation on track to be finished by or before the fourth quarter of next year, Rhodes says Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund is currently working with its implementation partner, Tyler Technologies, Inc., to develop a project plan. "We're still in the early phases of the project," says Rhodes, "but certainly anticipating a final rollout later in 2015."
