How to get PCF controls ready for dark mode in model-driven apps
Writing on his blog, David Rivard noted that although it hasn't been officially released, there are strong signals that support for dark mode is coming very soon to Power Platform model-driven apps. He wrote that investments made in the platform, such as the "new look" that leverages the Fluent 2 design system, are paving the way to dark mode.
Rivard stated that while everyone waits for an official dark mode toggle, there's a way to switch to dark mode now. He added that the end result is pretty neat, despite some noticeable icons rendering issues. He said he would likely use dark mode by default after its official release.
However, Rivard wrote that as Power Apps Component Framework (PCF) control author, he is always thinking about how a new feature affects the user interface of the platform as it often means he has to adapt his controls for the new feature.
And as a matter of fact, that is exactly what happens with the dark mode switched on. You can see that the PCF controls are still rendering like they do in light mode … How would they know.
In his blog post, Rivard then explained how to how to detect dark mode at runtime.
