How to leverage Electronic Reporting and EDI in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations
The Global Electronic Reporting (GER) tool in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations helps organizations configure electronic document formats in accordance with many legal requirements of various countries/regions so that it could exchange easily.
(*Note: This capability is called at several places as ER (Electronic Reporting) as well as GER (Global Electronic reporting) which are one and the same.)
This engine has the following salient features:
- Produces TEXT, XML, and OPENXML worksheet formats.
- Designed for business users familiar with Excel based formulas.
- Highly adaptable to adhere to changes in regulatory requirements.
GER can support a range of functions in Dynamics 365 for Operations, including
- Financial auditing
- Tax reporting
- Electronic invoicing
- Payment formats
- EDI (Electronic data interchange)
- Versioning available to manage definition lifecycle.
In an earlier versions of Dynamics AX, you may have used document templates and queries in the General Ledger module to create financial reports that could be extracted to XML and other formats. By contrast, GER in Dynamics 365 for Operations is available on-demand, allowing for more configuration and less development. One can create a single definition and use it across environments, even while maintaining several formats.
Electronic reporting/EDI information flow has many uses, as described in the visual below:
