Microsoft Plans Future of Financial Reporting for Dynamics GP 2016, 2016 R2, and Beyond
Microsoft released Dynamics GP 2016 earlier this month and plans to release GP 2016 R2 late in the calendar year with expanded access to OData and Power BI capabilities.
And with the new Amplify event this week, users and partners will be looking for guidance on the product's future approach to reporting, the cloud, and more. With the recent announcement by Microsoft of Jet Express for Excel with Dynamics GP, there are now rumors that Dynamics GP will be separating itself from Management Reporter as the default financial reporting tool in the near future. We have inquired with Microsoft for confirmation on this point.
The new GP web client released with GP 2016 will also continue to see iterative improvements in GP 2016 R2 and beyond, says GP product manager Pam Misialek, who spoke at the CAL Solutions user event, CAL Connect 2016, last week. Over the long term, Misialek said she and the GP team expect that a growing number of users will adopt the web interface, with eventually only a select few administrators and power users holding onto the Windows rich client.

The GP roadmap shared by Misialek extends only one release, to GP 2016 R2 in the second half of 2016. But she also advised that the two release per year cadence will continue beyond that.
