Microsoft's scale unit platform for Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management is now generally available. In addition, the warehouse execution scale unit in the cloud is also now available.

Microsoft announced its plans to launch cloud and edge scale units in September 2020. The platform should deliver on some of long-promised hybrid deployment capabilities requested by manufacturing and distribution organizations running Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management (formerly known as Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations).

The model introduces the concept of cloud and edge scale unit add-ins that give customers the option to distribute warehousing and manufacturing workloads across geographies in Azure and across on-premises and cloud computing infrastructure.

"The first release of the warehouse execution workload provides support for inbound operations, outbound operations, and internal warehouse movement. It utilizes the concept of warehouse orders, which have been added to enable the system to transfer warehouse work to scale units," wrote Microsoft senior program manager Christian Abeln.
