Unveiling the Future: Insights from the May 2024 Microsoft Fabric Update

The May 2024 Microsoft Fabric update was filled to the brim once again with new announcements, new features, and long-awaited improvements. Microsoft also provided a glimpse into future plans.

Here are the changes that we think are the most noteworthy. 

Fabric’s Product Roadmap for the Next Two Quarters

It’s been a while since we last got a peek at the roadmap at the Power Platform Community Conference in October. With all of the updates from autumn 2023 finally live, Microsoft announced the roadmap for the next two quarters, including highly requested enhancements and new features. 

Across all the planned updates for Fabric, the ones that I am most excited about are the new OneLake security updates on the horizon that will give Fabric administrators more granular control over data access. Organizations will be able to provide more data protection tactics for Fabric admins to lock down their data. So whether data is accessed from a semantic model, a Synapse notebook, a Power BI report, a warehouse, a lakehouse, or any other Fabric component, admins can be really specific about who accesses the data. 

While the roadmap includes many great features, some users might still find gaps. Fortunately, Microsoft is really good at listening to its community. Users can hop onto the Fabric Ideas ...
