Understanding the Microsoft Dynamics CfMD Authorized Reseller Status
This week, Open Door Technology, a Calgary-based reseller of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, announced it was awarded the status of Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD) authorized reseller status of Jet Reports. In addition to indicating a close relationship with the solution vendor (ISV), the award gives Open Door the CfMD logo, better positioning in the Dynamics Marketplace, and some marketing and PR assistance from Microsoft.
In case you haven't heard of "CfMD authorized reseller" status, the title may be a bit confusing but it is just a lesser-used aspect of the CfMD program for Dynamics ISVs. CfMD solutions have passed Microsoft's own testing standards, received recommendations from other companies in the industry, and have demonstrated the viability of the companies releasing the solutions.
Some partners have embraced the program, according to Brian Graftaas, Microsoft's CfMD program manager, but the focus seems to come from industry/vertical solutions. "In fact, with the launch of NAV 2013, we are trying to differentiate true 'Industry Solutions' from 'Applications/Services,' and moving forward, the CfMD Authorized Reseller program will only be a benefit of the Industry Solutions track," says Graftaas.
ISVs with CfMD products can nominate their Dynamics reseller partners for the CfMD authorized reseller status to indicate the partner's preferred status in selling the solution. For example, search for either "Open Door" or "Jet Reports" in Pinpoint in Canada and "Jet Reports by Open Door Technology" is the first application that comes up:
