Microsoft GM Muhammad Alam to expand leadership to all Dynamics 365 'Operations' solutions

Microsoft general manager Muhammad Alam will be expanding his role as general manager from Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operation to the broader range of "operations" solutions in the Business Applications group. He will now be responsible for Business Central, Finance and Operations, PSA, and Commerce.

The update comes as part of an announcement by Microsoft and the Directions event groups to promote a webcast on November 13  about Dynamics 365 GM Marko Perisic's departure from the company later this month.  Here's the specific wording emailed to partners:

Also, we would like to welcome and congratulate Muhammad Alam, on his new expanded responsibility over the portfolio of applications in the Dynamics 365 family under the umbrella of “Operations”. These include Business Central, Finance and Operations, PSA & Commerce. While Muhammad is searching for Marko’s successor, he would like to get acquainted with the community and express his strong support for it.

We've reached out to Microsoft to understand if Alam's new responsibilities also include legacy Dynamics ERPs including GP, NAV, SL, and C5.

The news should clarify for prospective Business Central manager applicants the latest leadership structure (i.e., not reporting directly to CVP James Phillips). It also offers insight into how the Business Applications group sees the investment in Alam's two new areas of responsibility – Project Service Automation (PSA) and Commerce.
