Tech firms urge retailers to let them accelerate digital purchase journeys

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai stepped onto the keynote stage at NRF 2026 with a vision for the next chapter in retail that uses AI to accelerate retail transactions while strengthening customer relationships.

AI can help at every step, he said, from discovery to decision. With more than 50 billion product listings in its shopping graph and over 2 billion refreshed hourly, it’s no wonder why retailers will pay attention to Google’s work to strengthen the role of shopping in its Gemini app, which already has 650 million monthly users.
