The world of Microsoft Power Platform never stops evolving. As Microsoft continues to issue product updates across the Power Platform family, what are some of the most important announcements to watch?
The Power Platform team has not issued significant updates to Power Virtual Agents and Power Pages since earlier in the summer, but continues to update Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Automate.
Power Apps
Principal PM Steve Jeffery announced Power Platform Administration Planning, a new solution built on Microsoft Dataverse to be a standalone component for in the Center of Excellence Starter Kit. Customers will be able to define tasks for model-driven apps, import example tasks from Excel, and review where administrative time is spent. Program manager Denise Moran shared Creator Kit, which offers a new way to make Fluent UI-based Power Apps.
The Power Apps team issued an experimental release of the ParseJSON function to parse JSON strings into Power Fx objects. Content Security Policy for Power Apps entered public preview. Through the Power Platform Admin Center, users will be able to control CSP headers for both model-driven and canvas apps. The team also announced new ways to extend modern commands with geospatial mapping and custom pages, as well as a new public API to install apps as part of CI/CD processes.
Power BI
Product manager Teddy Bercovitz announced Power BI and dataset management in Power Apps solutions. Going forward, developers can add Power BI reports as Dataverse components in Power Apps. “When you add a Power BI report or dataset to a solution, it will stay connected upon deployment across environments and tenants. The report or dataset can also be seamlessly managed as part of your Application Lifecycle Management process across environments and tenants,” he explained. Users will be able to control Power BI parameters from Power Apps.
