New Entry in Document Management Market for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Targets SMBs Based on Price, Simplicity

The document management market is still stuck in a traditional technology phase geared toward the large enterprise.  And nowhere is the problem worse than for small and mid-size companies

So maintains Greg Milliken, general manager of Motive Systems, maker of document management solution M-Files. And with the introduction of a new Microsoft Dynamics CRM-based offering, Motive Systems aim to put its footprint on the companies in the Dynamics CRM landscape still doing business without proper document management capabilities.

"There is no Quickbooks of document management," Milliken told MSDynamicsWorld.com in an interview.  "Organizing your documents should be step three after buying your computers and setting up a network."   But he believes that the complexity and cost of document management solutions have led to a lack of penetration in smaller organizations. 

M-Files is the flagship product of Motive Systems, a company that got its start with in the area of plotting and scanning software.  While its Dynamics CRM offering may be new, M-Files has been in the market for five years and in various Dynamics accounts for some time, albeit without the new pre-built integration. According to Milliken, the company has sold 50,000 M-Files licenses and supports it in 15 languages and in 60 countries.  Microsoft Dynamics AX customers use M-Files already, according to Milliken, and they may also do custom bi-directional integration of Dynamics data to their document management classification structure.  It is an approach that has been used successfully by M-Files with a variety of systems, including Oracle, Salesforce.com, SAP, Sybase, and others.
