My predictions for Microsoft Dynamics GP in 2020

I’ve got five precocious predictions (and a bonus) for Dynamics GP users for 2020. Let’s see what next year is going to look like.

1.  You will be sick and tired of hearing about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) is Microsoft’s latest evolution in mid-market ERP software. It’s not a direct upgrade from GP, and the feature set is not a one-for-one match between the two. Still, users reading this are probably smart enough to make an informed decision on whether they want to make a change (more on that later). What’s important here is that Microsoft employees and partners are incentivized on Azure usage, and GP doesn’t generate direct Azure usage. As a result, I’m hearing more stories from users and partners that the arm twisting is well underway to get companies to move to BC. Expect everything from friendly calls to severe scare tactics in 2020 to try to get companies to move.

2. Business Central will come into its own, but with some big caveats

I for one am one of the folks who is being pestered straight to SAP or Infor. If I have to go to the cloud I will trust the companies which did not devalue hundreds of thousands of dollars in prior investment in order to make us uncomfortable. Someone from Microsoft marketing really needs to have a workshop with Microsoft's new world order management about how not to irk the current customer base they are trying to harvest for subscription money.
