Microsoft prolongs mainstream support for Dynamics SL, but end of extended support won't change

Microsoft has extended its end date for Dynamics SL mainstream support by six months, from July 2023 to January 2024. In that time, the company has plans for three more cumulative updates to SL 2018 that will address issues in a range of functional areas.

Microsoft managers provided the guidance at the Community Summit North America 2022 event this week, discussing support plans and what else to expect as the product passes through its final stages of life.

While mainstream support will last a little longer than previously planned, the end date for extended support of SL will remain unchanged at July 11, 2028, product manager Jeff Suwyn told the event audience. Once SL passes from mainstream support to extended support, Microsoft will provide only security patches, but no more year end updates (including the end of 2024). Existing customers can continue to buy new users or modules during extended support.

The most recent cumulative update for SL 2018 is CU8, released in June 2022. And an update to the SL web app arrived in Sept 2022. Neither of these updates introduced new features, Suwyn reminded the audience, but the team continues to fix items across both areas.

The Dynamics SL team has three more cumulative updates planned before mainstream support ends. CU9 will be released in December 2022 will provide fixes for reported issues and year end updates based on government changes for W2 and 1099. Quarterly tax tables will also be updated.
