Power BI pros share their latest insights, from how to manage AI transformation credentials to querying Power BI reports with Analysis Services and more.

Managing AI transformation credentials

In the November release for Power BI Desktop, Microsoft introduced AI Transforms in PowerQuery. According to David Eldersveld, writing on DataVeld these apply to Azure Machine Learning, Vision, and Text Analytics. To align with AI Insights features already available in dataflows, Microsoft requires that users be signed up for Premium capacity to actually use AI Transforms.

Eldersveld cautioned that those who switch frequently between Power BI Desktop accounts may have problems, because of data capacity mix ups. He wrote:

After some initial confusion, I learned that the credentials for AI Functions are managed under Data Source Settings. To login as a different user to access dedicated capacities, you have to do this from Data Source Settings rather than the AI window. This is similar to Power BI Dataflows authenticating as the stored credentials under Data Source Settings rather than the user logged into Service overall in the top right corner.
