Microsoft Introduces Updated Management Reporter to Replace FRx

Microsoft answered the most pressing questions users have raised about FRx with introduction of a "powerful" updated version of Management Reporter, which will be initially available to Dynamics GP 2010 customers.

"We are moving into replacement mode for FRx," Guy Weismantel, director of marketing, Microsoft Dynamics ERP, told MSDynamicsWorld.com. He said the new version of Management Reporter, formerly codenamed Management Reporter 2.0, will offer "a clear path to upgrade" along with "native Windows 7 integration"-two key concerns users have voiced.

He said Microsoft expects Management Reporter to be compatible with Dynamics AX 2009 sometime during the second half of this year, and with the new Dynamics NAV R2 sometime afterwards.

Management Reporter can be expected to integrate with Dynamics SL 8 sometime during the first half of 2011, Weismantel said.

According to Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, "This is the first step in a multiyear roadmap to deliver broader corporate performance management capabilities across our Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions. Management Reporter retains many elements of the Microsoft FRx product, but is built on a completely updated architecture that will provide a new level of scalability and reliability for customers."

Management Reporter is intended to extend the proven functionality of Microsoft FRx and enable users to quickly and easily create, generate, help secure and publish professional-looking financial statements, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. It will also allow them to take advantage of the following:

  • Custom reports without IT assistance. These reports are intended to reduce the burden on the IT department by empowering the finance team to create its own financial statements.
