Microsoft announced the expansion of its Cloud for Healthcare portfolio with the addition of Azure Healthcare APIs to ingest, manage, and persist data while safeguarding Protected Health Information.

As a brand name, Azure Healthcare APIs replaces Azure API for FHIR, which was introduced in 2019. The latest offering will help customers combine disparate datasets, leveraging AI, machine learning, and analytics, according to the company.

Customers will be able to output data through FHIR APIs and SMART. Microsoft plans to share more details about the announcement at the HIMSS conference with early adopters Humana and Johns Hopkins University.
