Microsoft to introduce 'Activities' user level in Dynamics 365 for Operations as new option for limited usage

Microsoft plans to introduce a new license option for Dynamics 365 for Operations (formerly known as 'AX 7'). The new level is being referred to as the "Acitivities" SKU (though the final naming could change) and it will aim to fill a gap in current Dynamics 365 license levels, specifically for users who need to do a limited number of activities beyond the limits of the current Team Member license.

Speaking at Summit EMEA 2017 today, Microsoft director of product marketing Kees Hertogh told users that the team has in mind a specific set of usage rights based on by well-defined roles.

"Team member wasn't good enough [for some workers] and the full user isn't needed for someone working [with Operations in a limited way in] a warehouse, for example," said Hertogh. "We got feedback that there was need for a SKU to fit that gap."

Currently, Dynamics 365 licensing allows for the purchase of either full access or a read-only Team license. Feedback and negotiations with customers already on D365 for Operations helped Microsoft formulate the new level, according to Hertogh and others on the product team speaking at the conference.

The news on the new SKU was only recently revealed, and more information will be made available in terms of usage rights in the coming months.
