GPUG's Summit 2010 kicked off this morning with an appeal for GP users to consider upgrading to GP 2010 following the recent service pack release.

"Where are we with GP2010?" Microsoft marketing director for Dynamics ERP Greg Goldkamp asked the general session audience rhetorically. "What a perfect time to have this summit. GP 2010 has been out for six months now.  We've got Service Pack 1 that came out in September. [And] we've got the support plan for GP9 though it's expiring on Jan. 11."

Microsoft continues to focus on upgrades to GP 2010 and tried to frame the event in terms of opportunities for users to plan their upgrades. "There are lots of people here and there are sessions where you can learn what the top reasons are [for upgrading]... This is perfect timing to get in and setting your timing for upgrading depending upon where your fiscal year is," Goldkamp urged.

Adding functionality to GP is another Microsoft focus and an area they hope to gather feedback at the event.

Goldkamp praised the board of the user group, saying it's great to "see such a large group of people who get together, talk about solutions and get the most out of the solutions. This has been a key partnership with Microsoft since day one."

"We know that the best referral is word of mouth. And so if you become a customer reference of ours... there are lots of different ways you can participate in the customer reference program. And it's something we really value."
