How to find quickly a difference between G/L Entry and Value Entry transactions

On his Russian Experience ERP blog, Alexander Ermakov wrote that he's often asked how to deal with the amount differences between the general ledger entry and reports that are build based on (detailed) value entry transactions. In his post, he shared some of the ways to tell the difference.

Ermakov wrote that Microsoft Dynamics NAV supports different ledgers that should correspond to each other when a user posts a document. Typically, when a user posts a document, the result appears in several ledgers, and the transactions that are created correspond to each other.

This is particularly true when you book transactions to balance sheet accounts, not directly, but using specific cards (item cards, vendor/customer card, etc.). For instance, when a user posts a transaction using an item card, the following ledgers are populated with data: G/L entry, item ledger, and value entry ledger. However, it's not always the case that the general ledger and the item ledger match.

You can find out the reasons for that here.
