Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Shows Off Next Generation of Role Tailoring, Reporting, and Multiple Interfaces

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 will come to market with new SharePoint and browser interfaces, a new 12 month release cadence, and new rendering technology that product managers say will streamline the development of ISV solutions and customizations across the three primary interfaces of future NAV releases.

At the Dynamics NAV general session, product managers Dan Brown and Freddy Kristiansen demonstrated updated features of Dynamics NAV 2013 including cash flow forecasting, account schedule charts, an ISV solution integrated into the NAV 2013 web client, as well as an interesting Kinect-based proof of concept for the shop floor that drew some cheers from the audience. The browser will work on Safari on Mac and IE, Firefox, and Chrome on Windows, according to Brown.

Brown began the address by stressing the idea of broader access to ERP data that suits them in their particular role, something that "just isn't the norm right now, but that is what role tailoring is about."

"In the case of 2013, there are a number of things being done," Brown told attendees. " [First is] reducing the number of things you need to do to get your work done.  You should [also] be able to choose how you want to interact with the system.  And the third thing is how can we use device-specific technology to help you do your job better?"
