Microsoft Dynamics AX to D365 Upgrade Journeys, Part 2: Choosing a deployment model

by Peter Joeckel

Editor's Note: This article coincides with part 2 of our new podcast series on AX to D365FO upgrades.

The biggest surprise for me in discussing the upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (D365FO) with multiple clients and potential clients is not that to-date everyone has decided to go the cloud, but rather that everyone wanted to engage on a detailed analysis of the options available to them:

  • Cloud
  • On-premises
  • Hybrid

The second major surprise for me was that these sophisticated debates were often tossed out the window because of some minor “inconvenience” in the on-premises approach.
