Why do I Get Cancel Action Messages on Planned Orders?

On the Dynamic Consulting blog, Jacob Roder said that every time he leads a conference session or a class, a number of people always ask him the following question: "Why do I get cancel action messages on planned orders. If I'm supposed to cancel the planned order, why generate it in the first place."

Roder said to understand the mechanism behind this, you need to know two things about master planning logic: the sequence that master planning executes certain tasks and assumptions about the users' behavior.

"First, master planning does 4 distinct processes when master scheduling is run. These can be seen by examining the session log for a given plan," he writes.

Roder acknowledges that "Although it seems inefficient and annoying to generate planned orders just to turn around and tell you to cancel them, it's a necessary evil in the way master planning runs."
