Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU9: Getting Started With New Capabilities

by Amir Khoshniyati
Marketing & Sales Manager, Avantiico,

With the new release of Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Cumulative Update 9 (CU9), Microsoft has introduced new features for the Human Resource, Retail, Transportation Management, and Warehouse Management modules. In addition, there have been improvements in the MPOS extensibility and updates for county-specific regions which include Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Europe, Germany, India, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, UK, and the United States.

Time saving is a consistent theme in CU9, especially in the warehouse management module. AX users can now set up demand replenishment that cross checks "in progress" work that has not been finalized - this is a great check/balance as the existing work can be flagged and used rather than creating new replenishment demand. Both sales and transfer orders now allow you to process a wave that includes multiple shipments, which is helpful for planning waves to destinations. Mobile devices also have new additions which allow you to complete overproduction scenarios efficiently and display lists of open work items which can be configured to filter on various fields and allow the users to select any work displayed on the list to be directed to specific instructions.

Helpful Tip: As was experienced for AX 2012 R3 CU8, the application version will show a different number of: 6.3.2000.323 if you apply CU9 to an existing install of AX 2012 R3. This is due to all the granular models that are applied to your system through the CU9 install.  The one model indicating all models for CU9 has been applied has version number 6.3.2000.323. Using a slipstream process as detailed in the Installation guide will result in the single full model applied for CU9 with build number 6.3.2000.326.
