How to specify which users can post to a period in Dynamics 365 Finance

Writing on the Arctic IT blog, John Wainwright noted that you probably know that a ledger period can be on hold for some application modules in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, but not for others. 

However, Wainwright stated that you might not know that you can allow certain key users to post transactions in some modules but not others.

He wrote that you can specify which users can post to a ledger period, by module if desired, by using the ledger calendars form.

For example, Wainwright stated that at the start of a new period, you might want only a specific group of users to finish posting financial transactions in the previous period, while other users work only in the new period. He then explained how to do that.

In his blog post, Wainwright also offered information about a fix for a weird period access restriction error customer encounter from time to time.

Invalid users in D365FO – 10.0.39 update

On his Dynamicspedia blog, André Arnaud De Calavon wrote that beginning with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations version 10.0.39, Microsoft enforced security guidelines for external users. 

He explained that Microsoft basically disabled the cross-tenant access in D365FO, meaning that external users from a different tenant aren't able to log into the application unless they're created as guest users in the company's own client.
