Microsoft answers key questions about Workflow 2.0 for Dynamics GP 2013 R2 and 2015

The new workflow engine that shipped with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 earlier this year became a centerpiece of the release, and with good reason. Native GP workflow technology, a.k.a. "Workflow 2.0", eliminates the SharePoint workflow dependency (via Business Portal) that has dogged the product over several previous releases. It also adds web client access, integrates with GP web services, and increases GP's overall process management flexibility and accessibility.

GP 2013 R2 was just the start of the new workflow journey, with four workflow types introduced. Nine more types are planned for the upcoming GP 2015, the major release that we hear is now approaching its "code complete" milestone.

Workflow 2.0 has generated noticeable interest in the community since its announcement. For example, well over 300 GP users and partners signed up for a GP Workflow webcast that MSDynamicsWorld.com hosted late last week. That session is available now on demand.

More than one hundred questions streamed in from the audience for presenter and Microsoft program manager Jared Hall during the live event. Hall educated the audience on product details and a live demo and then spent over forty minutes answering audience questions. The Q&A covered everything from GP license considerations to ISV solution integration to technical architecture and the product roadmap.

There were so many good questions at the event that Hall couldn't answer all of them before time ran out.
