Microsoft announces Satya Nadella as Microsoft's new CEO
Satya Nadella is Microsoft's new CEO. The announcement was made in an email to Microsoft employees today.
The announcement follows months of speculation and a week of intense rumors that predicted this outcome. Nadella, 46 and born in Hyderabad, India, will become only the third CEO of Microsoft. He will also join the Board of Directors. Board member John Thompson will become the new chairman of the board of directors, taking over for Bill Gates. Gates will take on a new "Technology Advisor" role.
Nadella was previously the Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise group. Microsoft has put together a profile of the new CEO here.
In rising to the top of Microsoft, Nadella won out over other internal and external candidates including the CEOs of several Fortune 500 companies.
For the Microsoft Dynamics community, Nadella's ascent has special importance - he led Microsoft Business Solutions in an earlier era that saw the birth of the Dynamics organization that stands today.
