Microsoft announces general availability of zone-redundant storage for Azure Disk Storage

Microsoft announced the general availability of zone-redundant storage for Azure Disk Storage. The new capability allows for synchronous replication of block storage across three zones in any given region, and is supported for Premium and Standard SSDs.

The announcement builds on last year's launch of shared disks for Disk Storage, which Microsoft touts as the only shared block storage in the cloud able to support both Linux and Windows clustered and distributed apps. Customers can also leverage SQL failover cluster instance, SAP ASC/SCS, Windows Server Failover Cluster, Availability Zones for VMs, and ZRS disks with multi-zone Azure Kubernetes Service.
