Limited Beta Opens for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017: Experts Rate New Features

Microsoft has just released a limited beta version for Dynamics NAV 2017, the upcoming release expected before the end of calendar year 2016. It has also released a What's New in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 Limited Beta document on the PartnerSource portal.

Between the new release details and the NAV Directions conference just days away (September 25 - 28), Dynamics NAV MVP and blogger Aleksandar Totovic "strongly suggests" that professionals download both the document and the beta software. Totovic and fellow NAV blogger Saurav Dhyani outlined some of the new features on their blogs which they feel are the most significant:

  • Improving incoming documents with OCR support for document lines, filtering
  • Item categorizing and item attributes
  • Ability to cancel sales and purchase invoice and credit memos.
  • Account categories and some other functional improvements (reconciliation, Jobs, fixed assets, some US financial reports)
  • Simplified setup of Microsoft Dynamics CRM from inside Dynamics NAV and better features in CRM integration.
  • Better Office 365 integration and especially in NAV on Outlook mail and calendar
  • Smart notifications offer advice and recommendations

Dhyani also noted some changes specifically for developers and IT pros:

  • Extended Extensions
  • Web Services in multitenant deployments
  • Notifications in the UI
  • Setup data in the US version
