On July 18, Microsoft announced a significant new update for Power BI, with the general availability of Aggregations. The system offers new options for large-scale analysis of petabyte-sized datasets and works with cost controls, row-level security and architecture optimizations. It builds on existing DirectQuery technology, which allows the creation of a dataset "over" a data lake or data warehouse, without directly copying the data and adds drag and drop semantic modeling.

The Power BI team has changed the way that filtering works, allowing end users to hover over the filter icon in the visual header and see a read-only list of filters or slicers in place. The view displays a variety of different features, such as top N filters, sync-slicers, relative date filters, basic filters, slicers, cross-filtering and others.
