Latest Microsoft Dynamics NAV Statement Of Direction Notes Architecture Plans, Updated Timeline

In its recent Statement of Direction (SOD) document for Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the company lays out its plans for the product over the next few years, which it says will focus on five basic values: simplicity; productivity; continuously take advantage of Microsoft technology; user experience leadership; and rapid time-to-value.

Microsoft said the document (customers can download it here) is intended to update customers and partners about its strategy for Microsoft Dynamics NAV and the specific product roadmap for the next major release, Microsoft Dynamics NAV "7", as well as the initiatives planned for NAV "8" and NAV "9".

"Our goal is to enable partners to address a variety of business scenarios, including vertical business needs based on the application that Microsoft delivers," the company said in the document. "We will continue to provide customers and partners with a clear roadmap of where we want to invest in the application and where business opportunities for partners will be. We will include enhancements in the application that make it easier for our partners to build solutions on Microsoft Dynamics NAV."

The company said it plans to make investments in the software that improve partner productivity and make more users more productive throughout the company, reducing the time to value and helping partners take advantage of new business opportunities through software-plus- services and other product enhancements.

Rob Helm, an analyst at Directions on Microsoft in Kirkland, Washington said a few things caught his attention in the SOD including:
